Kollwitz Sunday – more than just a visit to the museum!
Every first Sunday of the month, the Käthe Kollwitz Museum invites you to a special experience: explore the collection for a special price of just 4 euros, join an exciting guided tour and immerse yourself in the fascinating world of printmaking!
In our open print workshop, you can try out various artistic printing techniques – no prior experience required. During our guided tour, you’ll also learn fascinating insights into the life and work of Käthe Kollwitz.

12 am to 3 pm
Käthe Kollwitz not only drew pictures, she also printed them. In the printing workshop, visitors can discover the differences between relief, planographic and intaglio printing processes, supplemented by examples of Kollwitz’ pictures in the exhibition, which illustrate the expressive power of these visual languages. Afterwards, you will design and print your own motif.
On the first Sunday of every month, all generations are invited to try out the monthly changing printing techniques.

Käthe Kollwitz constantly subjected her own work to self-critical scrutiny and compared it with contemporary works by her colleagues, before finally noting in her diary in December 1922: “But it is art, after all.” With this in mind, our permanent exhibition explores the artistic quality of the works of a printmaker and sculptor who has all too often been reduced to her political and social impact.

Learn more about the life and work of Käthe Kollwitz!
This public guided tour of the permanent exhibition offers a concise insight into the artistic oeuvre of this important printmaker and sculptor. Through selected works, key themes such as social justice, war, loss and humanity are explored. You will also learn more about the background to individual works. The tour invites you to discover Kollwitz’s art together.
Kollwitz Sunday was initiated to maintain the popular format of the open print workshop even after the free Museum Sunday was cancelled. The positive response from many interested museum visitors has reinforced our decision.
We hope that the reduced admission price of 4 euros will continue to facilitate low-threshold access to our museum for everyone. Children and young people under the age of 18, as well as holders of a valid pass (formerly the BerlinPass), members of the Association of Berlin City Guides, members of the press and members of ICOM will continue to enjoy free admission on Kollwitz Sunday.
