It was a tour de force. For the Kollwitz team, the last few months have been characterized on the one hand by anticipation of the new museum building and its possibilities. On the other hand, the past period also held a high potential for stress and required a great deal of time and energy from everyone involved.

With joy and amazement, we followed the progress of the construction and furnishing measures in the new premises – step by step, the building under renovation was transformed into a museum that now houses and presents the work of Käthe Kollwitz.

The former Minister of State for Culture, Prof. Monika Grütters, called the renovation “very successful. The exhibition architecture is often perceived as “always belonging to the building. The fact that this impression can be created is thanks to a dedicated planning team, to whom we would like to express our sincere thanks for the very good cooperation: bfstudio-Architekten (Berlin) for the structural engineering, Karsten Weber Studio (Düsseldorf) for the exhibition architecture and foyer design, Stephan Zimmermann Lightsolutions (Oberursel) for the lighting design, vp consults (Stahnsdorf) for the electrical planning and Domann Consulting Engineers (Berlin) for air conditioning and building services. With this team, we will enter the second expansion phase in the theater building in 2024 in good spirits.

We can look back on a very successful opening marathon and are pleased with the positive feedback we have received so far for the new Kollwitz home and its collection presentation.
