“Palace, Park, Workers’ Neighborhood” – Around the Käthe Kollwitz Museum.
An encounter with art, architecture and Charlottenburg’s “Red Island”.

On Saturday afternoon, October 14, 2023, you are invited to let the experienced journalist and city guide Marianne Mielke lead you through the neighborhood around the Käthe Kollwitz Museum. During the walk, you will learn interesting facts about Charlottenburg Palace and its park, the Electress Sophie Charlotte, and Klausenerplatz, the neighborhood across from the Palace. You will gain interesting insights into the working-class neighborhood, where almost all backyards were home to handicraft businesses, carriage companies, cow stables or real factory buildings like the sausage factory at Knobelsdorffstraße 15. The traditional Engelhardt brewery brewed its “Charlottenburger Pilsener” in Danckelmannstrasse until 1983.

The tour concludes with a visit to the Kollwitz Museum and a brief tour of the collection presentation by Director Dr. Josephine Gabler.
