Ten selected art postcards with the portrait of Käthe Kollwitz

– sketched as a young and happy Käthe Schmidt at the school for female artists, as a study object for etching and lithography, photographed, in woodcut and immortalized as a bronze portrait. Throughout her entire creative career, Käthe Kollwitz has repeatedly taken herself as a model and dealt with her own image according to artistic standards rather than vain points of view. She looks directly at the viewer in all portraits, only in the bronze relief “Die Klage” does she close her eyes with grief and hide behind her hands. She created the relief after the death of her artist colleague Ernst Barlach.
