“And yet it is art”

The presentation of the permanent exhibition with drawings, graphics and sculptures by Käthe Kollwitz follows the simple principle of chronology.

In eight thematic cabinets, the permanent exhibition “Aber Kunst ist es doch” (But it is art after all) comprehensively presents the artistic work of Käthe Kollwitz with almost 100 works. The guided tour of the exhibition makes the artist’s biographical and artistic development comprehensible in the context of contemporary history. In the process, continuities such as her work in cycles or her interest in social upheavals become apparent. But also discontinuities and new beginnings, such as the abandonment of the etching technique and the discovery of the woodcut, become visible.
