Scheibe was a member of the artists’ association founded in 1903, which was re-established in 1950 after being banned in 1936. Following the lecture, Dorothea Schöne will give a guided tour of the exhibition and show the artistic changes that former members such as Richard Scheibe had to face.[/vc_column_text][vc_separator][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/2″][vc_single_image image=”12648″ img_size=”full” onclick=”img_link_large” css=”.vc_custom_1739790810879{padding-right: 25px !important;}”][/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/2″][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1739792899738{margin-right: 50px !important;padding-right: 50px !important;}”]The sculptor Richard Scheibe initially studied painting in Dresden. After spending time in Munich and Italy, where he met Georg Kolbe, he moved to Berlin in 1904 and switched to sculpture. Together with Gerhard Marcks, he taught himself the techniques of sculpture, initially focussing on animal sculptures.

Architectural sculpture and interior decorations also played an important role in his early work. From 1925, after being appointed to the art school in Frankfurt am Main, he devoted himself increasingly to the nude figure.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][vc_separator][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner width=”2/3″][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1739793000348{margin-right: 50px !important;padding-right: 50px !important;}”]In the mid-1930s, he returned to Berlin and took over the master class for sculpture at the Academy of Fine Arts. In 1945, he was appointed to the Academy of Fine Arts and taught there until his retirement in 1951.

Until his death, Scheibe received numerous public commissions, such as the Memorial to the Victims of 20 July 1944 or the Fortuna figure on the tower dome of Charlottenburg Palace.[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text css=””]

Richard Scheibe, Memorial to the Victims of July 20, 1944,
original installation from the 1950s
(In: Wolfgang Ruppert (Hg.): Blendwerke.
Künstlerbiografien zwischen Nationalsozialismus,
Widerstand und der Neuorientierung
in der Nachkriegszeit, Berlin 2024.)

[/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/3″][vc_single_image image=”12653″ img_size=”full” onclick=”img_link_large” css=”.vc_custom_1739791375804{padding-right: 25px !important;}”][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][vc_separator][vc_column_text css=””]Registration is requested via mail to info@kunsthaus-dahlem.de

Participation is free of charge.[/vc_column_text][vc_separator][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner width=”2/3″][vc_single_image image=”12661″ img_size=”full” onclick=”link_image” css=””][vc_column_text css=””]Industriepark Höchst Behrensbau: Exhibition room with worker statue by Richard Scheibe (Wikimedia Commons, Eva K., GNU Free Documentation License 1.2)

[/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/3″][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][vc_separator]

[vc_row_inner disable_element=”yes”][vc_column_inner width=”1/2″][vc_column_text]

Workshop

DRUCKWERKSTATT

[/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image=”5998″ img_size=”300×294″][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1648673401236{margin-right: 25px !important;border-right-width: 25px !important;}”]
